Branislav Ivanovic Is A Part Of The Craziest Transfer Story You Will Read Today

The Serbian, 32, has appeared just once in Chelsea’s last four league games

Ivanovic to Spain

Branislav Ivanovic is a part of what is probably the most bizarre transfer story you’ll read all day. He’s allegedly emerged as an unlikely target for Barcelona. The Chelsea veteran is one of three right-backs on their January shortlist, according to Mundo Deportivo. Juventus full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner (32) and Shakhtar Donetsk legend Darijo Srna (34) are the other players on this golden oldie hunt.
Needless to say, Aleix Vidal’s move to Barca hasn’t worked out. In fact, it’s gone spectacularly pear-shaped. The full-back arrived from Sevilla with a hot reputation last year but was only able to play in competitive games for the club from January 2016 onwards due to their transfer ban.
He’s failed to impress on the pitch and quickly fell out with Luis Enrique. Sergi Roberto has acted as an auxiliary right-back for much of the season with Vidal being tipped for a Sevilla return.

Barca’s main target

Barcelona’s main target is actually Valencia defender Joao Cancelo but they don’t expect to sign him until next summer. In the short-term, they’re looking at a trio of veteran defenders, one of which is Ivanovic. The Serbian, 32, has appeared just once in Chelsea’s last four Premier League games. With his contract up at the end of the season, Barca could get him a for a cut-price fee. His form has nose-dived in the last 18 months.
